Tom Heaton is to become the first Manchester United asset for the 2020/2021 season. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, only the medical examination and the signing of his signature separates the Aston Villa goalkeeper from Old Trafford.
Heaton won the national team of England as a goalkeeper of Burnley and has been playing for Aston Villa since 2019. There he was first choice until he suffered a severe knee injury just after New Years Day 2020. Heaton returned to the competition selection this season, but remained the stand-in of his Argentine colleague Emiliano Martínez.
In all probability the 35-year-old closing post will play second violin next season at Old Trafford, where Romano says a two-year contract including option is ready. Third and fourth goalkeeper Lee Grant and Sergio Romero will leave at the end of June, but David De Gea and Dean Henderson have a multi-year contract. Incidentally, Heaton is not expected to be the only newcomer. Manchester United wants to strengthen itself in all lines, became clear after the lost Europe League final against Villarreal.
Tom Heaton will undergo his medical and sign as new Manchester United player in the next weeks, the deal is done and completed. 🔴🤝 #MUFCContract until June 2023 + option for one more season. Here we go. ⏳ https://t.co/yTR4ONCO41
