75 years ago: a saw as a ticket for a soccer game

75 years ago the Second World War was over for a few months, but part of the Netherlands was still in ruins. That’s why a lot of things were organized to rebuild the country.

Help from Denmark

In Denmark, for example, tools were collected to be sent to the Netherlands, because there was a great shortage of them in some areas. Danish painters, for example, sent painting equipment this way.

Also in the Netherlands there were major actions to collect tools. There was a national campaign of the Red Cross and special football matches were organized. You didn’t have to buy a ticket for that. You could only go inside in exchange for a saw, hammer or some screws. On our special liberation site you can read more about it.
