Newcastle United has started its Saudi era with a 2-3 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. However, the most talked about moment of Sunday was the unwell of a Newcastle fan, which meant that the game had to be temporarily discontinued.
Steve Bruce seemed to be immediately victimized by the new owners of The Magpies, but was still allowed to start his thousandth (!) competition as manager. He saw his team blasting out of the starting blocks and got ahead after two minutes. Callum Wilson headlined viciously hit from a cross by Javier Manquillo: 1-0.
However, Tottenham managed to turn things around in no time at all. Tanguy Ndombélé equalized with a placed swipe and the VAR awarded Harry Kanes initially rejected 1-2. Shortly before halftime, football suddenly became afterthought on St. James Park. A supporter became unwell and emergency services came to the rescue immediately after being alarmed by Spurs players Sergio Reguilón and Eric Dier.

The supporter was able to stabilize and was transported to the hospital, after which the game was played out. Shortly before the players were able to revisit the locker room, it turned 1-3: Kane delivered the assist this time and Heung-Min Son completed. Newcastle United had little more time in the second half and ended up with his tens disaster: Jonjo Shelvey ran into two yellow cards in a 20minute raid. With an unfortunate goal of his own, Dier brought some hope into the hearts of the home team, but the 2-3 came too late for Newcastle.
