Once again, actor Kevin Spacey has been charged with sexual abuse. Two men say he sexually abused them when they were minors.
One of them, actor Anthony Rapp, already told in 2017 in an interview to news site Buzzfeed about the abuse by Spacey. This was followed by several cases, which broke down for various reasons.
The other man, who wants to remain anonymous, says he had oral sex with the actor at the age of 14. The men went to the Supreme Court in New York and claimed damages.
Spacey hasn’t reacted to the latest developments yet
The abuse took place in the 1980s when Spacey, an unknown 26-year-old actor at the time, invited him to a party, told Rapp to Buzzfeed. The then 14-year-old teenager was sitting in a room watching television out of boredom when Spacey approached him. He laid me on the bed and lay down on me, in a sexual way, said Rapp, who fled the apartment, saying he was startled.
After publishing the interview, Spacey apologized for his inappropriate behavior via Twitter. He said he didn’t remember the incident, but said he was shocked by Rapp’s story. Not much later, Spacey announced that he was homosexual, confirming the rumors that had been circulating in the film world for a long time.
Television channel Netflix gave up working with him because of the accusations, losing his leading role in the series House of Cards.
Rapp’s accusation at the time led to many other men in both the U.S. and Britain accusing the now 61-year-old actor of cross-border behavior. Several lawsuits were filed against Spacey, but they got bogged down due to, among other things, the death of a prosecutor and the refusal of an alleged victim to testify.
Spacey must be held accountable, says attorney Peter Saghir now to news site Deadline. My clients are looking forward to the trial and to justice for a crime that should never have happened. Spacey’s behavior was not only inappropriate and offensive, it was also a crime. This lawsuit sends a strong message that no matter how rich, powerful or famous you are, you are not above the law.
Rapp claims to have been traumatized by the incident and suffered psychological damage. So he’s still struggling with depression and anxiety and is under treatment by a psychologist.
The actor is best known for his role as Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets in Star Trek: Discovery, in which he plays the first openly gay character in the world-famous television series. He played in Broadway musicals as a child and came into contact with adult actors at a young age.
At the moment there are also ongoing investigations into Spacey in London, where he worked as artistic director at the Old Vic theatre for many years
