After Dumoulin Oomen also switches to Jumbo-Visma

It’s been hanging in the air for a while and now it’s over: cyclist Sam Oomen is trading Team Sunweb for Jumbo-Visma after this season.

The 25-year-old Brabander has committed himself to the Dutch top team for three years. Oomen follows in the footsteps of Tom Dumoulin, who switched from Sunweb to Jumbo-Visma last year.

“I’ve had five good and happy years at Team Sunweb. Thinking about my future, however, it feels like the right time to take a new step”, says Oomen.

‘Biggest talent’

Jumbo-Visma, the team of Primoz Roglic, Dumoulin and Steven Kruijswijk, gets with Oomen another strong climber. “Sam is the biggest young Dutch round talent”, says sports director Merijn Zeeman.

Oomen was Dumoulin’s luxury servant in the Giro d’Italia in 2018 and finished ninth. In the Giro of 2019, however, he suffered a fractured hip, after which he also had to undergo surgery on a narrowed femoral artery. All in all that took him nine months, after which the rider didn’t manage to touch his old top level yet.

This year Oomen is back in Italy. He does not belong to the Sunweb selection for the upcoming Tour de France.
