On Friday evening, PSV officially said goodbye to Director of Football Affairs John de Jong. Due to a crisis of trust, the two parties were no longer able to continue together.
PSV announces this via the official channels. De Jong is thanked for 22 years of loyal service. “PSV and Director of Football Affairs John de Jong have terminated the ongoing employment contract immediately,” writes PSV. “PSV thanks John de Jong, who was also a player, scout and head scout in Eindhoven in the past, for his efforts over the past 22 seasons.”
On the club site, General Director Marcel Brands explains why PSV is breaking with De Jong. “After a hectic last week of the transfer window, I had an evaluation with the Supervisory Board. This showed that a unanimous breach of trust has arisen at the Supervisory Board with regard to the functioning of John de Jong,” says Brands.
“The management has always remained united,” continues Brands. “Both during the transfer window and after, but for John personally, it has been a reason to think about his future. After a few days of reflection, John has indicated that an indispensable form of backup has been lost for him. We closed the case with the utmost respect and sincerely wish John all the best.”
De Jong himself also responds to the decision. “Ive always put PSVs sporting ambition first in everything, with an eye for the clubs financial health. Every decision made this summer had the support of the entire management. This staff and selection are able to make it a successful season. As a PSV member, I worked in various roles at the club for almost half my life. I will continue to cherish that”, concludes De Jong.
