Armed men kidnapped dozens of boys at a school in Central Nigeria last night. Government Science College in Kagara was mugged around 3:00 a.m. 28 children, three staff members and their families were taken, reports the Nigerian department of the BBC, but it may be more people. Whoever kidnapped them is still unknown.
According to witnesses, the kidnappers arrived on 33 engines and wore school uniforms. Security officers at the school were overpowered. According to unconfirmed reports, a student was also shot.
Students are abducted more often in Nigeria. In December, even hundreds of boys were kidnapped at their school in Kankara, north-west Nigeria. They were held in a nearby forest. Terror group Boko Haram claimed that kidnapping. On December 17, 344 boys were released, it is unclear whether any boys are still being held.
A few years ago, Boko Haram was responsible for another notorious kidnapping. Then hundreds of Chibok girls were kidnapped. Some of them are still missing.
In Nigeria, other armed groups are also active that kidnap schoolchildren for ransom.
