After a lot of noise and a lot of turmoil, the transfer is now official: Ajax has managed to strengthen itself with Lucas Ocampos. The Argentine eventually comes over from Seville on rent for a year. Ajax has stipulated an option to buy, reports the club.
Ajax makes no statement about the amount of the purchase option. In Argentine media, amounts of around sixteen million euros were circulating. In any case, the deal between Ajax and Sevilla came about very messy: the clubs agreed on a transfer fee of twenty million, but the supervisory board of Ajax put a line through the permanent transfer.
Sevilla was willing to lower the price by five million, but that did not help the Supervisory Board either. So now a rental construction has been chosen. So Ocampos is a player of Ajax for at least one season.
The 28-year-old Argentine is therefore the ninth and final addition to the national champion in this transfer window. Odisseas Vlachodimos was also on his way to Amsterdam, but the Greek did not come to the Johan Cruijff Arena in the end. Ajax is still going to bring in Florian Grillitsch, but because he is transfer-free, the capital dwellers have longer time.
Still, a challenging day awaits Gerry Hamstra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The transfer window will be open for another day in many other countries. Among other things, Edson Álvarez is being pulled by Chelsea, who has placed a bid of fifty million.
