Ajax has settled for the final of the KNVB Cup without any problems. In the Abe Lenstra Stadion sc Heerenveen turned out to be no match for the Amsterdammers (0-3), who will compete against Vitesse in De Kuip in one and a half months.
Heerenveen started in his own house with two basic players with a rich Ajax past: Lasse Schöne and Siem de Jong. The two watched diligently as Ajax got ahead of Davy Klaassen in twenty minutes. The experienced midfielder headed the ball in the long corner after an advance of Antony.
Ajax remained the parent party and had no child to Heerenveen, who barely managed to stay in possession of ball. Besides, it didn‘t help the fact that Joey Veerman didn’t have his day. Even before rest, Ajax thought to increase the lead, but Klaassen‘s second goal was canceled by Tadic’s hands.
After Daley Blind was exchanged for Sean Klaiber, Ajax took his foot off the gas pedal, the mediocre Sébastien Haller killed a number of chances and Heerenveen started believing in a comeback. Mitchell van Bergen came close, but Maarten Stekelenburg was at his post.
At that time, however, it was already 0-2. Tadic shot an impeccable penalty after a violation of Pawel Bochniewicz on Mohammed Kudus. The Ghanaian midfielder had recently fallen in for the injured Klaassen.
In the final phase, in which De Jong and Schöne were also exchanged, the final place of Ajax was no longer in danger. In fact, the Amsterdammers made a third goal. David Neres escaped the attention of the Frisian defense and passed Erwin Mulder: 0-3.
