Ajax keeps freewheeling. After big wins at Sporting Portugal (1-5, Champions League) and SC Cambuur (9-0, Premier League), Fortuna Sittard was also a big result. It turned 0-5.
Fortuna trainer Sjors Ultee warned before the game that beautiful and attractive playing football against Ajax is probably not in it. It was mainly a question of stopping Ajax and he was more than right about that afterwards.
Fortuna‘s tactical plan proved not to work well enough and that allowed Ajax to record the opening target after eleven minutes. After a combination with Dusan Tadic Steven Berghuis moved up close to his second Eredivision hit for Ajax. Fortuna barely got off his own half and could have been at a bigger backlog after fifteen minutes.
After an attack on the left, the outlaw Noussair Mazraoui shot the 0-2 behind Yanick van Osch around sixteen metres. When captain Dusan Tadic, out of the turn still gave the 3 to 3 rest signal, no one doubted a gain for Ajax anymore and it was more questionable how much it would be in Limburg.
The loot was in and that gave trainer Erik ten Hag the reason to make some mutations in the second half. He gave Mohammed Kudus his first team return. The first chance in the second half was for Fortuna, but the Ultee team didn’t come beyond that. And at Ajax, the foot went off the accelerator slowly.
In the final phase Ajax walked through Kudus and Nicolas Tagliafico (two invaders) to 0-4 and 0-5, but a sample score like against Cambuur was not there for the Amsterdammers, who scored nineteen times in three games. FC Groningen awaits next Saturday. Fortuna hits Vitesse.
