After sc Heerenveen, Vitesse and PSV Ajax are still without damage after two league games. The Amsterdammers had no problems with RKC Waalwijk in a quiet Johan Cruijff Arena despite a mediocre match: 3-0.
Dusan Tadic opened the score with a flick of the wrist and shortly afterwards, a hit by Zakaria Labyad was cancelled by the VAR because of a breach by Lisandro Martínez. Labyad later put his name on the scoreboard.
After a pass from starred Mohammed Kudus, who made his debut in the premier league, Noussair put Mazraoui ahead and the ball went into the goal via Labyads shoulder. In addition, arbiter Bas Nijhuis ignored the call for a penalty kick for Ajax, as Melle Meulensteen got the ball against his arm but had the arm beside his body.
That was the harvest for Ajax in the first half, in which RKC was threatening via Melle Meulensteen, who headed wide, and Anas Tahiri, whose shot was stopped.
After the break, RKC held its ground for a long time and Finn Stokker put goalkeeper Andre Onana to work. Labyad missed another big chance and only after RKC defender Luuk Wouters got red for flooring the broken Labyad, Martínez increased the score with a powerful header after a nice attack.
Afterwards, Ajax coach Erik ten Hag praised the premier league debutant Kudus, who replaced Ryan Gravenberch. The 20-year-old midfielder came over from Danish FC Nordsjælland last summer. A ten with a griffle goes a bit far, but he played very well, clearly, Ten Hag said.
He can still improve in choosing the right position, Ten Hag continued. Thats also logical, because he doesnt know exactly how we play yet. He needs flight hours in competitions
