The KNVB has set the semi-final of the cup tournament between SC Heerenveen and Ajax on Wednesday 3 March. At the Abe Lenstra Stadium that evening at 21.00 hrs will be kicked off with a place in the final battle in De Kuip on 18 April.
SC Heerenveen placed itself on Wednesday evening through a spectacular 4-3 victory at Feyenoord for the semi-final. The team of Johnny Jansen looked at 1-3 behind ten minutes before time, but turned it back (with a man more).
The Frisians already knew that Ajax would become the opponent in the semi-final. The Amsterdammers were already in their own house a week earlier with 2-1 too strong for PSV. Because of the winter weather, the quarterfinals between SC Heerenveen and Feyenoord were cancelled that week, and only on Wednesday.
The other semi-final will take place one day earlier, on Tuesday 2 March, between Vitesse and VVV-Venlo. The Venlonars placed themselves on Wednesday night at the expense of NEC for the last four. The winning 1-2 fell into the necessary extension. Also in Hel Gelredome will be kicked off on 2 March at 21:00 hrs. Sadly detail is that Vitesse and VVV also face each other in Arnhem in the Eredivisie game round prior to the semi-finals.
Giakoumakis shoots from slipper
VVV was last month by an unleashed Georgios Giakoumakis still with 4-1 too strong for Vitesse in Venlo. The Greek striker (who won the opening goal against NEC on Wednesday) scored no less than four times.
