Ajax travelled to France without Noussair Mazraoui to compete in the Europa League with Lille. The rightback received a ball in his face during the duel with Heracles Almelo on Saturday and, according to trainer Erik ten Hag, had “no eyesight.”
Mazraouis injury is a new setback for coach Ten Hag. He cant appeal to the suspended André Onana and Ryan Gravenberch. Sébastien Haller is not entitled to play because Ajax accidentally did not register him with UEFA for the remaining duels in the Europa League.
18-year-old Devyne Rensch seems to be a distinguished candidate to replace Mazraoui. Other options include Sean Klaiber and Jurriën Timber. The rightback of Ajax is charged against Lille with the surveillance of Jonathan Bamba, one of the most dangerous players in Frances leader.
Ten Hag must also appoint a replacement for the absent Haller. Dusan Tadic can play as a striker, so there can be a spot on the left side for David Neres or Oussama Idrissi. Ten Hag has with Zakaria Labayd and Brian Brobbey other options for the position of central attacker.
Lille – Ajax starts Thursday at 21:00. Wednesday evening Ajax trains in Stade Pierre-Mauroy, home of Lille. Trainer Ten Hag gives just before that training together with goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg another press conference.
