Almere City takes over head position from Cambuur

Almere City has redeemed as the leader of the first division by a convincing victory over Jong AZ SC Cambuur. In Wijdewormer it became 5-2 for Almere City, which thus remains on course for promotion to the Eredivisie.

After half an hour, Almere City led 3-0 by goals of the Dane Frederik Helstrup, Thomas Verheydt and Damon Mirani. For Verheijdt it was his twelfth goal of the season and his fiftieth ever in the first division. Mees Kaandorp and Oussama Bouyaghlafen also scored for the team of trainer Ole Tobiasen. In between Jelle Duin did something back for Jong AZ and Des Kunst made the results a bit more bearable in extra time.

The new leader recovered from last weeks disappointing result when it turned 0-0 against FC Eindhoven.

Almere City now has 47 points, 1 more than Cambuur. The Frisians are waiting for the away game against NEC on Sunday, which has climbed to sixth place.

De Graafschap

De Graafschap has launched the third period of the first division with a victory in the away match against Roda JC. In Kerkrade it was 1-3 and all goals of De Graafschap fell in the first half.

Club top scorer Ralf Seuntjens (13 goals) opened the score after five minutes, after which Joey Konings turned 0-2 after half an hour. Elmo Lieptink gave the visitors a comfortable rest during the extra time of the first half. Just before time, Stefano Marzo returned on behalf of Roda JC.

As a

result of the victory, De Graafschap reached 41 points, 5 less than the leader SC Cambuur and 3 less than Almere City. Those two clubs are already in possession of a period title.

Number 5 Go Ahead Eagles won 3-0 from MVV and passed FC Volendam, which won no further than 0-0 in the away match against FC Dordrecht. Excelsior won a goal by Reuven Niemeijer on his own field with 1-0 from FC Eindhoven.
