Amsterdammer Asante scores against Chelsea: ‘After eight long months, unreality’

Amsterdam-born football adventurer Akwasi Asante suddenly found himself back at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and also managed to score against Chelsea. His team Chesterfield was already behind 5-0, but Asante still detonated the box.
After half a rescue from Marcus Bettinelli, the youth product of HFC Haarlem had the ball for typing. โ€œWhat dreams are made ofโ€, he responded afterwards to BBC Radio Sheffield. โ€œI couldnt believe it when the ball came in front of my feet. I thought, Im just going to score at Stamford Bridge. And I didnt know what I would do, cheer or break down.โ€
Asante has only just returned from long-term injury and made his first minutes of the season just before the turn of the year. โ€œIt
s been eight long months for me. And that I can play and score at Stamford Bridge: its unreal. Actually, I still cant believe it.โ€
The fact that the fifth divisionist eventually lost 5-1 to the reigning Champions League winner was an afterthought. โ€œNobody expected anything from us, I think people didnt even expect one shot at goal. But we can be proud: 5-1, honestly not even that bad against the world champion.โ€
