Analysis: seven certainties, four question marks

Orange can begin preparation for the European Championships. The final game against Georgia was won with 3-0 and the sights can be directed towards the races against Ukraine, Austria and Northern Macedonia. What has Frank de Boer become the wiser of this show off competition in Enschede? Football scoop appoints six points of discussion.
De Boer cannot dispel doubts The coach has not made it easy for himself in the run-up to the European Championships: even after the show off, he will not have public opinion in the country. The opponent was modest Georgia, but De Boer continued to hold on to a system of five defenders, with which a large number of internationals have little experience. Orange will undoubtedly get through its pool with Ukraine, Austria and Northern Macedonia, but does not yet look like an integrated whole that can compete with the European elite.
Back to the magnetic screen Especially the tuning in case of ball loss is amenable to improvement. Especially in the first half, Georgia often became dangerous through the same pattern. One of the attackers dropped, and then a man walking over it, into the space behind the last line of Orange. More than once, that space between Daley Blind โ€” not the fastest โ€” and Owen Wijndal โ€” was still searching in this system. De Boer cannot miss Blinds input passes, but what will the national coach do with this vulnerable spot in the team?

The basis of De Boer takes shape: seven certainties speaking about Blind: he has no competition rhythm at all, but with his specific qualities seems assured of a basic place. Either centrally in the back or as a left-back. Six of the other basic players seem to be able to sleep with peace of mind. Memphis Depay, Georginio Wijnaldum and Frenkie de Jong are of course undisputed, just like 5-3-2-specialist Stefan de Vrij. The imperturbable Maarten Stekelenburg and tireless Denzel Dumfries have also made a good turn.
Four questions and then four positions remain, which โ€” judging by the practice matches against Scotland and Georgia โ€” are still open. Jurriรซn Timber has done an excellent job, but normally has to give way again when Matthijs de Ligt is fit again. Wijndal is not yet the Wijndal of AZ during this EK campaign: who knows, De Boer opts for Patrick van Aanholt, Blind or Nathan Akรฉ. Marten de Roon has been a valued force for some time now, but did not play well in Enschede: Davy Klaassen, Ryan Gravenberch and also tribuneklant Donny van de Beek panting him in the neck. And, finally, Wout Weghorst? Finally he got his first Orange goal, but Donyell Malen showed during his turn that he is a more than serious competitor in the peak position.

๐Ÿฆ Weghorst has left the field in the meantime, but what a discharge there was with him after the 2-0. His first goal for the Dutch team is a fact. #nedgeo pic.twitter.com/ApjigK5ovl

We love Oranje again Lets conclude positively: the Dutch football audience has a love-hate relationship with the national team, especially with the football coach, but clearly the Orange Legion cannot wait for the European Championships to start. Of course, the absence at the previous tournaments and the months long sight of empty stadiums has to do with that too. But it was nice to see the interaction between conductor Memphis and the audience. Weghorst also has everything in it to grow into a crowd attraction.
The track book for the next few weeks, seven more nights sleep and then the party starts. The Johan Cruijff Arena is the backdrop of Netherlands-Ukraine on 13 June (21:00 hrs), followed by races against Austria (17 June, 9pm) and Northern Macedonia (21 June, 18.00 hrs). If it is not very disappointing, the journey then goes to London, Bucharest, Glasgow or Budapest, playing cities in the eighth finals. In Amsterdam, the Netherlands will not return after 21 June: whether it should be for the cruise…
