Kevin Hoflands decision to make Kostas Lamprou second goalkeeper was annoying to the Greek goalkeeper. However, Lamprou does not regret his transfer to Willem ll.
Lamprou calls it “very special” when he returned to Willem ll last summer. The club took him over from PEC Zwolle. “Five years ago, I left here with a lot of great memories. I was the first goalkeeper in the Premier League for three seasons, which I really enjoyed. I had a good relationship with the audience and Im happy to be back here,” Lamprou tells Voetbal International.
The goalkeeper was not only able to go to Willem ll, but also had options in the Eredivisie. “I played often enough at the bottom of the Premier League and I saw the challenge in the Kitchen Champion Division. We play with this for promotion and the goal is different. The club also really appeals to me. I didnt have to think about this for long,” says Lamprou.
However, it was not Lamprou, but Joshua Smits that was preferred in the goal. Lamprou did not see that coming. “Of course, I took it into account. The trainer waited a long time to make a decision. When I heard it, it was a bummer. I was really not happy about it, but after the first game, I switched the button.”
Lamprou took a break from football and then went full again. “I wanted to show that I should play. The fact that the trainer chose me after three duels made me very happy. Its not that I dont have fun when Im not playing, but the feeling is better when youre below the bar every week. I did not come back to Willem ll to sit on the couch.”
It seemed like the ideal return, but then Kostas Lamprou ended up on the bench. Everything is different now. https://t.co/g1FlchSFD9
