Another three arrests for riots around the New Years Eve Leeuwarden

The police in Leeuwarden arrested three more suspects for disturbances during the New Year. Three residents of the city aged 21, 24 and 41 have been arrested for attempted assault or overt assault.

These suspects were part of the group that threw heavy fireworks, glass and bricks at the police during the turn of the year in the centre of Leeuwarden. In the New Year‘s Eve several people have already been arrested.

The three suspects detained could be identified on the basis of footage from bodycams. Against ten others who may have been involved in the disturbances, the investigation is still ongoing.

On Monday, a 22-year-old man from Leeuwarden was sentenced to a community service of two hundred hours for throwing burning torches to the police during the turn of the year. He’d spent 11 days in prison.
