Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of violating new ceasefire

Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of violating the new truce in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The ceasefire entered at midnight local time. A few minutes later, according to the spokesman of the Armenian Minister of Defence, there were fighting operations again.

โ€œ The enemy fired artillery grenades northerly from 00.04 to 02:45 and fired missiles south from 2:20 to 2:45,โ€ she writes on Twitter. Azerbaijan has not yet reacted as far as is known.

Previous truce

A week ago, after mediation by Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan had also agreed a truce in the region, but that was already violated within five minutes. Even in the following days, the ceasefire was not respected. The countries blamed each other for the violations.

The conflict over the area flourished at the end of September and has already killed 600 soldiers and civilians in recent weeks. The region in Azerbaijan is inhabited and controlled by Armenians. They receive military and financial assistance from Armenia.
