At least eleven people shot at party in Mexico

At least eleven people were killed during a party in the Mexican city of Tonalá. Prosecutors say they were shot at people from a vehicle. The bodies of ten men with gunshot wounds have been found on the sidewalk, says justice in the state of Jalisco.

The body of a minor victim was found in an apartment. A woman and a boy got hurt.

In Mexico, almost 100 murders are reported a day. Violence in the 126 million inhabitants of the country increased sharply after the authorities stepped up their fight against criminal cartels in 2006.

These cartels are often involved in criminal activities such as drug smuggling into the United States, kidnappings for ransom and extortion. According to researchers, only about 3% of crimes in Mexico are currently solved.
