Prior to an African Cup competition in Cameroon, at least six people were killed by tribulation. There were also at least 40 wounded in the hustle and bustle around the stadium in the capital Yaoundé.
According to local authorities, the number of victims may still increase. A hospital nurse tells AP news agency that some injured people are in bad shape. “Well have to transfer them to a specialized hospital.”
The hustle and bustle at the Olembe stadium was due to the quarterfinal of the Africa Cup between host country Cameroon and the Comoros. Cameroon won the match 2-1.
Football drivers say about 50,000 fans wanted to enter the stadium. The stadium has room for 60,000 fans, but due to corona measures, no more than 48,000 spectators were allowed to enter.
