Luis Suárez has closed the door at Atlético Madrid after two years behind him, prompting Los Rojiblancos to start the search for a new number nine. RCD Espanyol forward Raúl de Tómas is seen as one of the main candidates.
According to Diario Sport, Tómas has been on Atlético‘s list for some time, but Suárez’s departure has led the club to make work of his arrival. The 27-year-old striker is still stuck in Barcelona until mid-2026, which means that there is a lot of trouble in the pouch. Espanyol has included an escape clause of 75 million euros in its contract.
Atlético is reportedly looking for ‘a real nine’. Antoine Griezmann and João Félix would not be seen as pure strikers, but rather as preparers. RdT, a triple international for Spain, is seen as the right man for the striker position. However, Los Rojiblancos take into account a possible return of Álvaro Morata in the background. Juventus has not cleared the 35 million euro option, so the Spaniard basically rejoins in preparation for the new season.
