Football Club Atlético Madrid continues to oppose the suspension of defender Kieran Trippier. FIFA World Football Federation rejected the appeal of the Spanish club on Monday, leaving Trippiers ten weeks suspension. Atlético has decided to go to the International Sports Tribunal CAS.
It is still unclear when the Tribunal will deal with the case.
Trippier was sued in May by the English Football Federation FA for seven alleged violations of gambling rules at the time of his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Atlético Madrid, in July 2019.
It is reported that Trippiers friends would have placed bets on the basis of information provided by the back in a WhatsApp call.
The rules stipulate that players are not allowed to place bets on football matters or to disclose relevant confidential information to another person who subsequently places a bet.
The 30-year-old English international has now served one of the possible twelve matches suspension. Also for Sundays duel against Alavés, the Englishman was not included in the selection by trainer Diego Simeone.
