AZ has no child at Groningen and at least temporarily takes the leading position

In any case, AZ has secured the leading position in the Eredivisie for at least a few hours. Pascal Jansen‘s team won 1-4 on Saturday visiting FC Groningen.
At AZ, Jesper Karlsson returned to the basics after his long injury. He did this as a false striker, because both Jens Odgaard and Vangelis Pavlidis were unavailable. The Swede seemed to listen to his return with a hit after just three minutes, but goalkeeper Michael Verrips rescued. In the rebound, however, Dani de Wit was the most attentive, so Alkmaar visitors quickly took the lead.
Groningen soon faced a second setback. Liam van Gelderen had to be replaced by Damil Dankerlui with a hamstring injury. After just under twenty minutes, the 0-2 also fell via Karlsson, who was already close by. AZ thus waltzed over Frank Wormuth’
s team, but goalscorer Dani de Wit had to be replaced by Riechedly Bazoer shortly before the break.
Nevertheless, there seemed to be no dirt in the air for the Alkmaarders. Yet it became exciting again shortly before the break. A long ball fell at the feet of Ricardo Pepi, who managed to shoot into the 1-2 while falling and turning. With Mayckel Lahdo for Karlsson, AZ did not allow Groningen to come all the way back, although the game seemed to be able to change for a while in the second half. After more than an hour, however, Milos Kerkez was sent into the depths and he tapped into 1-3 with the outside foot.
AZ then worked a bit on the goal balance. Lahdo scored the fourth goal for the North-Dutch, but the credits went to another substitute. With beautiful control and pass, Peer Koopmeiners created the opportunity. Due to the big win, AZ now has twenty points, two more than Ajax and PSV. The Amsterdammers can pass again later in the evening if Go Ahead Eagles is defeated.
