AZ turns it all around and surprises friend and foe with 7-0 win over Dundee

It was still highly questionable whether AZ would reach the final heat of the Conference League, but the Alkmaarders swept the floor with Dundee United. The team of coach Pascal Jansen won 7-0, which means that a coefficient clash with Gil Vicente awaits.
Exactly a week ago, AZ ran into a 1-0 defeat on a visit to Dundee United. The number five of the Eredivisie was moderate and therefore had to show a different face in the return. AZ needed some time to get going at the AFAS Stadium, but after the twentieth minute the party erupted.
Vangelis Pavlidis then put AZ ahead, after Milos Kerkez provided a good assist. The home team seemed to be liberated from that moment on. In the 25 minutes that followed, AZ scored no less than four times, due to goals by Pavlidis, Tijjani Reijnders (twice) and Hakon Evjen.

As a result, it stood 5-0 at the rest signal. It only happened once before that a Dutch team went to tea with such a big lead. In the second half, AZ decided not to return gas. On the contrary: in the 46th minute it was already 6-0, due to a goal by Dani de Wit. Many of Dundee’s accompanying supporters thought it was enough at the time: they left the stadium en masse.

5 – @AZAlkmaar are the second Dutch side to score five goals before halftime in a single European match this century, after PSV against Zeta Golubovci in August 2012 (also 5). Riot. pic.twitter.com/seU8JLWeMB

Fifteen minutes before, Mayckel Lahdo set the final score at 7-0, by poking the ball in the far corner in a controlled manner. Riechedly Bazoer then made his debut for AZ, but of course the game had already been played at that time.
AZ thus achieved its second biggest victory ever in Europe. The 1977 11-1 against Red Boys Differdange is still in first place. In the final heat of the Conference League, Jansen and co. meet an interesting opponent, in the form of Portuguese Gil Vicente. As a result, AZ can do very good business for the Netherlands on the coefficients list.
