Ballon dOr: Haller contender

Sébastien Haller is one of the nominees for the Ballon dOr. The Ivorian striker is surprisingly on the thirty-member list announced Friday night by organizer France Football.
Haller had a great season at Ajax. Especially in the Champions League, the 28-year-old striker impressed with his goals. This summer it was sold to Borussia Dortmund, but he has not yet been able to show himself there. Haller was diagnosed with testicular cancer, from which he is being treated.
In addition to Haller, Virgil van Dijk is among others on the list. The Liverpool defender is the only Dutchman to be nominated.
Title holder Lionel Messi and Neymar are the most notable absentees. The Argentine and Brazilian star did not showcase their top form at Paris Saint-Germain last season. In the past, Messi won the prize no less than seven times. Cristiano Ronaldo, who received the Golden Ball five times, is in the race.
