Barça cup below in extra time

Ronald Koeman dramatically missed his first prize as FC Barcelona trainer. The Catalans fought for the Supercopa on Sunday evening in Seville, but in the last minute gave a victory over Athletic Bilbao and finally went down in the extension.

The Basques had stumbled at Real Madrid midweek, while Barcelona had settled Real Sociedad after penalties. During the final battle in Seville it was initially testing, but the game gradually came loose in the first half. Athletic-back Ander Capa put Marc-André ter Segen to work and Lionel Messi missed the goal apart from one hair.
At a stroke of rest, both teams did succeed: the 1-0 and 1-1 fell short succession. Antoine Griezmann got the ball after a brilliant Barça attack and broke the game open. Even before rest, the equalizer fell: Iñaki Williams spooned the ball for the goal and Óscar de Marcos left Ter Segen without a chance.

After a little hour of playing Athletic seemed to complete his comeback: old-timer Raúl García drew from the side position for the 1-2, which was rejected after the VAR intervention. Williams also smelled at a head start, but in the end it was Barcelona that struck. Jordi Alba was straight ahead from the left, Griezmann tapped his second one: 2-1. Barcelona seemed to have enough of that, but in the last minute of the regular playing time – after Frenkie de Jong missed a nice chance at 3-1 – things went wrong. Invaller Asier Villalibre tapped up close a free kick of Iker Muniain in the roof of the target: 2-2.
Barça had to extend for the second time in four days. In this it went wrong early: Williams played freely on the edge of the sixteen meters and shot the ball – albeit through a Catalan leg – beautifully in the upper corner. The men of Koeman didnt appear to get that blow until the second half of the extension, and just before the final signal went looking for the 3-3. A free kick of Messi carved via just next door and Griezmann left to make his third. To make it worse, Messi got red because of a slamming movement. The Basques took their lead over the line and Barça is still waiting for his first prize since the title of 2019.
