Barça expects at least 600 million

FC Barcelona has taken an important step towards improving the club‘s financial position. At an extraordinary meeting, members agreed to sell 49.9 percent of the club’s licensing and merchandise division and 25 percent of TV rights.
Chairman Joan Laporta insisted on Thursday evening the importance of the sale. According to him, Barça would otherwise not even be able to renew the contract of top talent Gavi, he cited as an example. The Catalans have been struggling against the strict financial rules in La Liga for some time, but with this step, a lot of money can suddenly arrive at Camp Nou.
If we can pull these two levers, we can be competitive again, Laporta told before the vote. Barça is now a Formula 1 car without petrol, whose engine has been seized. We have now restarted the car, this way we can bring the club back to life.
Barcelona expects to have at least 200 million euros left over from the sale of the shares in the licensing and merchandise department, the so-called BLM branch. No fewer than 568 socios voted in favour and only 65 members were against. A large majority also turned out to sell 25 percent of TV rights for the next 25 years. For every ten percent, the club wants to receive at least two hundred million.
This allows the Catalans to raise more than 600 million. According to Laporta, once the deals are closed, Barça will be able to operate normally again. As a result, incoming transfers are also possible again. The downside is that the Spanish powerhouse can lose out on income in the long term if the shares become more valuable.
