David Alaba seems to be on his way to continuing his career at Real Madrid after this season, but Joan Laporta wants to stop it. According to the Barcelona presidential candidate, there is still no agreement between Real and the Austrian defender.
The Spanish newspaper Marca reported earlier this week that Alaba and Real Madrid are personally concerned about the transfer of the Austrian, but Lapora strongly doubts that. “I think Real Alaba has not yet committed at all,” says the presidential candidate, quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
This Sunday the election for the presidency at FC Barcelona was scheduled, but it has been postponed for the time being due to the coronavirus. Laporta is one of the three remaining candidates and sees Alaba as a welcome reinforcement. “The first thing I will do is speak with the current technical director to see how things stand. I am ready to make sporting improvements to Barcelona that I believe are needed,” says Lapora, referring to the Austrian defender of Bayern Munich.
Earlier this week it turned out that Eric García will almost certainly return to Barcelona. The 20-year-old defender runs out of his contract with Manchester City at the end of the season.
