FC Barcelona officially confirmed the arrival of Marcos Alonso on Friday night. The Spanish defender played at Chelsea FC since 2016 and comes across as transfer-free. The defender signs a one-year contract in Catalonia.
Barça reports this via the official channels. Alonso had been on the list of the Catalans for a long time and had to come over from Chelsea together with César Azpilicueta. Both players were linked to a return to the homeland throughout the summer, but Azpilicueta disappointed Barcelona in early August and decided to stay with Chelsea.
The 31-year-old Alonso signs a one-year contract with Barcelona. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang walks the reverse path from Barcelona to Chelsea. In addition to Alonso, Héctor Bellerín, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessié also came across as transfer-free. More than 150 million euros were deposited for Robert Lewandowski, Jules Koundé and Raphinha.
