Atlético Madrid has dropped off expensive points when visiting Athletic Club de Bilbao. The leader of the Spanish League went down with 2-1 and therefore has to fear that Barcelona will take over the lead on Thursday.
After eight minutes, Álex Berenguer already headed the 1-0 against the ropes and that was an ideal scenario for the Basques. They were able to leave the initiative and the ball to Atlético and wait for what the Madrians would come up with. Bilbao played that game well, because they controlled the formation of trainer Diego Simeone in the remainder of the first company relatively easily.
The leader of La Liga tried to reach a goal in every possible way in the second half. Because it didn‘t want to go through floating attacks, hope was set for a standard situation and Los Rojiblancos succeeded. Stopper Stefan Savic headed the 1-1 against the ropes a quarter of an hour before, and as a result the Madrid’s hope of a victory increased.
In the final phase, Atlético gave everything to force another winning goal. The hope was based on the invaded Luis Suárez, but also the Uruguayan could not make the redeeming hit, and on the other hand it went wrong to make an excess of disaster. Inigo Martínez headed a corner kick hard against the ropes and thus gave the Basques the victory.
Atlético is now only two points ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively the number two and three of the ranking. However, the Catalans still have a competition and can take over the leading position in the midweek with a victory in Granada. On Saturday 8 May there is a crucial game on the program: the formation of Koeman in Camp Nou will play against the men of Simeone. Seville has not yet been eliminated with three points behind.
