Nicki Pouw-Verweij, senator and number 3 on the Second Chamber List of Forum, throws a new bat in the FVD-Hoenderhok. In a letter to board members, she writes that Baudet has recently been “radicalised and conspiracy theories”. The letter is in the hands of De Cceit.
Asked about the letter Pouw-Verweij said in Met het Oode op Morgen that the FVD founder during a dinner party last Friday with a number of candidate MPs “passed a moral boundary”. She did not go into the content, but according to the letter in De Cceit Baudet said that George Soros corona has helped “take away our freedom”.
He would also have said to Pouw-Verweij in a conversation about anti-Semitic messages in the youth department: “Where does your crusade against anti-Semitism come from? Almost everyone I know is anti-Semite.” When asked if that was a joke, Baudet would have answered in the negative.
Baudet did that also in talk show Beau, where he was faced with the letter. “I deny that I have made those statements and that I have anti-Semitic ideas.” He called the letter “the nasty of all this, the dirty thing about this game.”
The RTL program also reported that the board has filed a complaint against Baudet because he does not want to provide the login details of email and social media accounts. “I keep those accounts in control because they will work me out differently,” was Baudet‘s response.
The support for Baudet among the representatives of his party continued to crumble today after all developments. Several senators, members of the States and also the FVD Group in the European Parliament support the majority of the party administration.
“ I support the board’s line,” said Pouw-Verweij earlier today. She argues that, as far as she is concerned, anti-Semitism, racism, Nazism and other forms of extremism have no place in the party. In this way, she refers to the unrest that had arisen when anti-Semitic and homophobic apps were circulated within the youth organisation of FvD. The number 5 of the then list, Eva Vlaardingerbroek, also distances itself from Baudet on Twitter.
Forum-MEPs Derk Jan Eppink, Rob Roos and Rob Rooken (also a member of the board) call it unacceptable that Baudet has actually declared a list election. They also say that he hijacked Forum‘s social media accounts “to push this idea through”.
The three write in a statement that they have proposed Baudet to release a seat in Brussels. Baudet could take it because he (as a list pusher) received many preferential votes last year. “However, Baudet announced a whole new plan today.”
The list of supporters of the board also includes Senators Annabel Nanninga (who wrote a devastating piece about Baudet yesterday), Toine Beukering and Bob van Pareren.
Provincial FVd’ers also turn against Baudet. “This circus must stop immediately, in the interests of our party, our constituents and our country,” says the member of the North Holland State Daniël van den Berg. He calls on Baudet to “stop the battle”.
Johan Almekinders, chairman of the group in Overijssel, calls Baudet “a very great thinker”, but a failure as a director. “He can never be credible party leader or be on the list again.”
Not everyone turned away from Baudet. FVD treasurer Olaf Ephraim still supports him, just like Wybren van Haga, the independent member of parliament who joined Forum for Democracy. On the Instagram account of the compromised youth department, an action has started under the motto ‘Stem Thierry Return’.
Baudet announced on Forum‘s Twitter account this afternoon that there will be a digital leadership election next week and that he will be a candidate. Other board members knew nothing about this and spoke of a one-man action.
Thierry Baudet explains why he wants to be party leader again:
Three out of the four other board members would like to remove Baudet from the board, but this can only be done by a General Assembly of Members. That’s why they‘re considering putting him out of the party, an expulsion.
Baudet joined the party leader on Monday following the unrest over the youth department. In his statement today, he said that this step should have brought peace to the party. “But that didn’t happen. The soul of the party is in danger of being lost.”
