Its only early March, but Bauke Mollema won his second win of the season on Wednesday. The Dutchman of Trek-Segafredo soloed in the Trofeo Laigueglia to victory.
34-year-old Mollema drove away from a group of favorites, sixteen kilometers from the finish, after 186 hilly kilometers, who never saw him again. Former Tour de France winner Egan Bernal sprinted to second place for Mauri Vansevenant.
In February, Mollema also won the opening tour in the Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var. He finally decided the French race to be third.
The Trofeo Laigueglia is the start of Italian spring. Saturday the Strade Bianche is on the program. Mollema drives that game too.
“ The track was on me and we started today with a good team. It was my goal to win and it is very nice that it succeeded. Ive been feeling really good for the past few weeks anyway. Its very nice to have two victories behind my name already. As a team, we have already won five times. Hopefully we can continue this line.”
