Bayer Leverkusen appoints a new trainer: “Im very excited”

It‘s official: Bayer Leverkusen has appointed Xabi Alonso as the new trainer. The Spaniard is the successor to Gerardo Seoane, who has to leave after disappointing results.
It was already clear that Leverkusen would work with Alonso (40). Gerardo Seoane has done a good job for Bayer Leverkusen over the past year and a half, especially qualifying for the Champions League in a superior way, emphasizes sports director Simon Rolfes. Unfortunately, we’
ve strayed from the road to success. From our point of view, the early elimination from the DFB Cup, but especially the fact that the current position in the Bundesliga is far below our expectations, necessitated the change in coach.
I know Leverkusen from my time in Germany as an excellent club, says Alonso, who played at Bayern Munich. Bayer Leverkusen has always had great players and I also see a lot of quality in the current team. In my discussions with the club, it quickly became clear that, despite the current difficult situation, ambitious goals are still being pursued in principle. I am very excited about this task and I am sure we will achieve it.
