Bayern Munich has suffered a painful defeat. Borussia Mönchengladbach defeated the front runner and defender with 3-2, and for coach ‘Hansi’ Flick‘s team it was the second defeat of the season in the Bundesliga.
Robert Lewandowski opened the score for Bayern, with his twentieth hit in the Bundesliga this season. The Pole did that out of a penalty kick. Leon Goretzka took care of the 0-2 shortly afterwards. Halfway, however, it was already the same. Jonas Hofmann scored twice for the home club.
After the resumption, Florian Neuhaus put Borussia Mönchengladbach ahead and Bayern, where Joshua Zirkzee was missing from the selection, could no longer make up for that delay. The team will remain a leader, but can be passed by RB Leipzig on Saturday, if the Borussia Dortmund club wins.
“Gladbach was very efficient. They punished the few mistakes we made,” said Flick to DAZN. “We played very well in the first 30 minutes and had the game in our hands, but it was the little things that decided the match. Mistakes of ours, loss of balls and bad defending. The individual mistakes hit us hard, because when we were 3-2 behind, we couldn’t come back again. Gladbach made the spaces smaller and then counter-counted well.”
