Because of the 2-0 victory over England, Belgium has placed the Nations League final round in its own hands. Denmark won with 2-1 from Iceland, and therefore remains in the race for group 2 of the A-Division.
After just over ten minutes Youri Tielemans the score. The Belgian midfielder fired a durable shot about twenty metres away, which ended up in the target via England goalkeeper Pickford and the inside of the pole. Dries Mertens doubled the lead with a nice free kick.
The previous meeting in the Nations League between the two countries ended in a victory for England (2-1), but the team of national coach Gareth Southgate did not claim the victory.
In the Danish capital Copenhagen, Denmark won 2-1 from Iceland by a late hit by Christian Eriksen. The Dane scored twice out of a penalty kick. Invaller Vidar Orn Kjartansson scored the goal with Iceland, which is still pointless in the Nations League.
Belgium has 12 points after five matches, two more than number two Denmark. Wednesday, both countries compete in a mutually duel for a place in the final round. England stands third with 7 points and is excluded from group profit.
