Belgium from Sunday midnight in stricter lockdown

In Belgium, non-essential shops and holiday parks have to close, people with contact professions have to cease work and the autumn holidays will be extended. That is what the Belgian Prime Minister De Croo said.

โ€œ In many hospitals, the pain threshold has already been exceeded. We still dont see any change. Theres only one answer, one choice, and thats all behind our caregivers. The only way to do this is to maximally avoid all physical contacts,โ€ he said.

The Croo announced more measures; households are only allowed to receive one guest, teleworking is mandatory and only 15 people are welcome at funerals. Receptions after funerals are prohibited. Cafes and restaurants had to be closed two weeks ago. The measures shall take place at midnight on Sunday and shall remain in force for at least one and a half months.

โ€œ This is going to stop our social life completelyโ€, said Minister of Health Vandenbroucke. โ€œThats hard, thats a lockdown. But one where companies continue to run, where we gently reopen the schools after 15 November and avoid being completely socially isolated.โ€
