U.S. President Joe Biden visits the Florida place where an apartment building collapsed last week. In a conversation with local administrators, he said he expected the government to fully reimburse the costs for the County Miami-Dade and the State of Florida. “We‘re not walking away from that, this is a matter of life and death.”
Biden will speak to rescue workers and family of victims. Eighteen deaths have been identified so far, at least 145 people are still missing. It’s not known if they were in the Surfside building near Miami when it partly collapsed. Except shortly after the building collapses, no one has been found alive under the rubble. On Thursday, work at the disaster site was interrupted for fear of further collapse of parts of the complex.
The cause of the collapse of the Champlain Towers South complex is not yet clear. However, an engineer warned about major structural damage to the twelve-story building three years ago.
