It was a spot on an otherwise rather carefree evening: the goal Feyenoord had to take in the injury time of the match against Maccabi Haifa. Justin Bijlow came off his line in doubt and watched Dean David tapping the ball between his legs into the goal.
“That was a blemish indeed, it should not happen”, Bijlow is guilt-conscious after the competition in conversation with ESPN. “I thought too easy at that moment, that‘s not allowed. This can also happen at a 1-0 lead, or at 0-0, then you’re further away from home. It‘s not good when you play a great match.”

Bijlow missed the matches against Slavia Prague, FC Twente, Heracles Almelo and Fortuna Sittard because of an injury, but he says he is completely fit again. “For Fortuna, I had only had one training course, we found that a little too early. Fortunately, we still had this game to play,” says Bijlow.
Feyenoord had to do it without the fanatical following in De Kuip due to the corona measures. “Of course, it’s terrible without supporters. We‘ve been through what it can be like in previous matches. If you have to play in an empty tub… That’s terrible,” Bijlow concludes.
