Daley Blind fell out during a practice duel between Ajax and Hertha BSC after his defibrillator went off. The defender went to ground in the eightieth minute with a scream without an opponent around.
Once the caretakers were with him, Blind soon got up again and walked off the field himself.
Blind feels good
Trainer Erik ten Hag said after the race that Blind feels good. “His ICD went off, that’s what the cardiologist is going to examine. We’ll have to wait and see what the results are, but Daley’s doing well.”
The incident was reminiscent of the Champions League game against Valencia last year, when the same thing happened. There appeared to be a heart muscle inflammation at the time. In February, Blind, equipped with a defibrillator that monitors the heart and gives a pulse if necessary, made his comeback.
Labyad delivers Ajax victory
Ajax won the practice match against Hertha in Amsterdam 1-0. Zakaria Labyad cashed in a free kick after twelve minutes, changing the ball’s direction. Two weeks ago Labyad scored three runs against FC Utrecht in three quarters of an hour
After a hit by Edson Álvarez was rejected for offside after the break and a beautiful combination between Donny van de Beek and Labyad had died in beauty, David Neres was allowed to prepare for a raid to the delight of the scarce crowd. His first minutes since he was injured on 5 November last year against Chelsea.
After that joyful return it suddenly became quiet in the Johan Cruijff Arena when Blind, who together with the strong playing Perr Schuurs formed the centre of the defence, went down and had to go to shore.
