Daley Blind believes that Ajax has taken steps compared to last week. The centre-back, who was captain in the absence of Dusan Tadic, is critical of himself after his mistake in the fourth SSC Napoli hit.
After last week‘s 1-6 defeat, Ajax also seemed to lose with large numbers in Naples, after the home team reached 2-0 after sixteen minutes. “After that, we got the feeling that we were playing football,” Blind told RTL 7 right afterwards. “We were sloppy at times, but we showed that we had taken steps.”
“In the beginning, courage does fall into your shoes,” continues Blind, who sees a positive point in the early backlog. “It’s worth a compliment that we‘ve tried to keep playing football and keeping our heads up. We did a good job, but not well enough.”
In Victor Osimhen’s final chord, Blind was the bummer. The defender let the Nigerian snatch the ball and defeat Remko Pasveer. “I wanted to find the solution ahead. It‘s a personal mistake, I know that very well. You don’t have to tell me that,” he tells the reporter. “I don‘t know if it was an unfortunate game of mine, but an unfortunate moment for sure.”
Blind insists that Ajax is not where the team was around this time last season. “There have been a lot of changes, but we shouldn’t hide. As difficult as some of the blows are… We have to get up again.”
