Blizzard promised that Diablo II: Resurrected characters would stop missing

The much-anticipated release of the Diablo II: Resurrected remake was marred by technical problems: players faced bugs, server crashes, and some lost characters during their playthring. Blizzard assured that she coped with one of the most vexing mistakes: losing her character along with progress. As it turned out, this happened when characters for both online and offline playthrough received identical names.
