Two former Blizzard employees, Tim Morten and Tim Campbell, founded a new studio, which was named Frost Giant Studios. They‘re going to do real-time strategies designed for a much wider audience than familiar examples of the genre. Tim Morten is a former production director and lead producer of StarCraft II.
He started his work at Activision, where he worked on MechWarrior 2 and Heavy Gear, then founded Savage Entertainment, which produced James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire, Star Wars: Battlefront II games for PSP, Medal of Honor: Vanguard, Transformers: The Game, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 and other. Tim Campbell was lead designer of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne and designer of Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos, after of this was working on System Shock 3 and was the Wasteland 3 gamefore-director.
He also acted as the designer of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and led the Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony. The founders have already managed to raise $4.
7 million in seed funding, that money will go to create a prototype of gameplay, audience research and studio expansion. As Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reports, many Blizzard employees in recent years have urged company to engage in real-time strategies, but without success.
So it’s not surprising that it was necessary to start your own studio for this purpose.
