Bayer Leverkusen has won a victory in the Bundesliga for the first time since 16 December. After four duels without a win the team of coach Peter Bosz won at home with 2-1 from Borussia Dortmund.
Number three Leverkusen prevailed against number four Dortmund for rest and got ahead of Moussa Diaby, who scored after a beautiful pass by Leon Bailey. Just before rest, the Frenchman got two big opportunities, but Dortmund-keeper Roman Bürki kept his team on his feet.
Brandt of all
After rest, Dortmund bit more away. After an hour, former Ajacied Daley Sinkgraven was allowed to invade Leverkusen, but shortly after that it went wrong for the team of Bosz: Julian Brandt shot into the 1-1 against his old club from the edge of the penalty area. Brandt stood dry for exactly a year and a day in the Bundesliga, until today.
Shortly after that Brandt got a good chance to put his team ahead, but it was Leverkusen that secured the three points by means of a quick outbreak after a mistake by Thomas Meunier: Florian Wirtz made the winning.
Thanks to the victory, Leverkusen (temporarily) reduced the gap with the leader Bayern München to four points. Bayern played one less game.
There were three other duels on the program in the Bundesliga: VfL Wolfsburg was too strong for Mainz with 2-0. Wout Weghorst scored the second goal for Wolfsburg, which has risen to fifth place in the ranking.
Record Road Hust
For Weghorst, who was already top scorer at Wolfsburg, it was his twelfth goal of the season in the Bundesliga. He is now the most scoring player for Wolfsburg in one season half.
Borussia Mönchengladbach won 1-0 from Werder Bremen and Hertha BSC lost at home with 3-0 to Hoffenheim.
