Marcel Brands left at Everton. The club announced that late Sunday night. Brands has been responsible for technical policy in the position of director of football over the past three years.
Things havent been going well between Brands and the club management for a long time. Owner Farhad Moshiri appointed Rafael Benítez against Brandss liking. Evertons results are poor, but Moshiri publicly supported Benítez and this increased pressure on Brands.
“Last Friday, after a conversation with the chairman and other board members, we agreed that I will step back as director of football and as a member of Everton,” says Brands. “This decision has taken me some time and is one of the hardest Ive had to make in my career. The management and I agree that there is a clear difference in the future vision. That is why this decision was taken.
After the match, Brands clasped against Liverpool with an angry supporter and that more or less set his departure in motion. Everton acquired Brands from PSV in 2018, where he served as Technical Director for eight years.
Everton Football Club can confirm that Marcel Brands has left his post as Director of Football.
