The Brazilian Supreme Court is investigating President Jair Bolsonaro for statements claiming that there will be fraud in next year‘s elections. For a long time, the Court has been investigating whether the Brazilian government is spreading fake news and adds the right-wing populist Bolsonaro to that investigation.
The President is expected to run for a second term during the 2022 elections. He has repeatedly claimed that the electronic voting system Brazil uses is susceptible to fraud. According to critics, his statements are meant to raise doubts among the population, making it easier for Bolsonaro not to commit himself to any electoral defeat.
Brazil’s highest election tribunal (TSE) announced on Monday that it will also investigate Bolsonaro because of the statements.
