The Spanish authorities have arrested a 22-year-old Briton suspected of being involved in last years big Twitter hack. Then the perpetrator or perpetrators managed to access 130 accounts on the messaging service, including those of prominents such as PVV leader Geert Wilders, current US President Joe Biden and wealthy businessmen like Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Elon Musk.
The U.S. Department of Justice reports that suspect Joseph OConnor has been arrested in coastal town of Estepona in the southern region of Andalusia. This happened at the request of the authorities in the United States. They want to prosecute the twenties for all kinds of criminal activities on the Internet, including the “cyberstalking” of a minor victim.
The people behind the Twitter hack estimated to spoil more than $100,000 (nearly 85,000 euros) last year. They used hijacked accounts to ask unsuspecting Twitter users for cryptocurrencies, a kind of digital currency. For example, a message appeared on the hijacked account of businessman Elon Musk in which he supposedly promised to refund the double amount. “You deposit $1000, Ill deposit $2,000 back. I only do this for the next half hour,” the scammers wrote.
