A 49-year-old Briton was detained in the Netherlands for a rape in the Erasmus Park in Amsterdam, in 1993. The man, who was arrested in Manchester this spring, was handed over to the Netherlands.
The victim of the rape was a woman who was walking her dogs through the park in November 1993. She was overpowered by a man and raped.
The case was jailed until the beginning of this year, when dna material that had been secured after the rape appeared to match a dna profile in a British database. Following a European arrest warrant, the 49-year-old suspect was arrested at the end of April, after which the Netherlands asked the British authorities for surrender.
Last Friday, the transfer was a fact, reports the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Today the accused was brought before the examining magistrate in Amsterdam. He has extended his custody by two weeks.
