British children over 12 years old are offered corona vaccine

British children aged 12 to 15 are also invited to attend a corona vaccine. The London government adopts a unanimous recommendation from medical advisers who say that such vaccination can help prevent disruption in education.

The UKs top medical advisers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (CMO) point out that if a significant proportion of school students have been vaccinated this could help prevent local outbreaks of Covid-19 in the winter months, among others. This would make it easier to keep schools open. Health Minister Sajid Javid joins that line of thought.

In July, the UK Vaccination Committee (JCVI) advised not to vaccinate all children because healthy children would have minimal benefit from vaccination, especially since they hardly ever get seriously ill.

The young teen inoculation campaign starts next week. They get the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. Incidentally, vulnerable children in that age group were already eligible. Children 12 years and older are already being vaccinated in the US, Israel and some European countries.
