British Health Minister Matt Hancock quit. Over the past few days, his position has been under pressure after pictures of him had surfaced. This shows how he kissed with his political advisor Gina Coladangelo. Coladangelo also captures her position.
That intimate entanglement meant a violation of the corona measures because they kept no distance from each other and were not part of the same household. Both are married.
Hancock apologized for the incident, but nevertheless there were many calls to leave, including within his own Conservative Party. Prime Minister Johnson did not join the people who demanded Hancocks departure and found apologies enough.
At first Hancock said he had another role to play in fighting the pandemic. Meanwhile, he has come to a different conclusion, he says in a video statement: “I understand everyones enormous sacrifices. Those who make the rules also have to comply with them, which is why I have to step off.”

Hancock was also under attack because of revelations from Dominic Cummings, a former advisor to Boris Johnson. Cummings revealed app messages in which Johnson called Hancock “totally fucking hopeless.”
After giving up Hancock, Johnson had much kinder words for him about. According to Johnson, Hancock can “be very proud of what he has accomplished in counteracting the pandemic”.
Cummings had to deal with a similar situation to Hancock last year. After a national lockdown came into force, Cummings made a trip from London to the Durham region. That was contrary to the current corona measures.
Hancocks successor is Sajid Javid. That appointment is remarkable. At the beginning of last year, Javid stepped up as Finance Minister after refusing to fire his political advisors and replaced by advisors appointed by Boris Johnson.
